Twitterrific for iPhone and iPad

Twitterrific for iPhone and iPad

Universal - runs on iPhone and iPad! Available separately for the Mac.

General

There's only one version! Is there still a free version with ads?

Twitterrific is now a single, universal app that will run on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Twitterrific can be used for free with ads and a single account. Purchasing the in-app upgrade gets you more.

What do I get by purchasing the in-app upgrade?

Purchasing the in-app upgrade removes all advertising from within Twitterrific and also gives you the ability to manage multiple accounts. As a nice side benefit, purchasing the upgrade on the iPhone means you also own it for the iPad and vice versa.

I've already purchased my in-app upgrade but need it again and/or want to apply it to another device. Do I have to pay again?

Absolutely not. Simply tap the Restore Purchase button and when prompted, enter the same iTunes account information you previously used to purchase your upgrade. iTunes will recognize that you already own the package and let you install the update free of charge. This also goes for restoring your upgrade on one mobile platform, like iPad and needing to input it in another, like iPhone.

I am a Premium version 2 owner. Why am I being asked to pay again?

There is currently no way to give discounts or upgrades for separate products on the App Store. Apple simply does not give us this option. The bright spot is that Twitterrific for iPad is now a universal app so if you purchased it in the past you automatically receive a version that works with your iPhone as well. If you don't own an iPad now but may buy one in the future, then you'll eventually be able to use it freely when you do.

This aside, a great deal of time and effort goes into Twitterrific to bring it to you. In addition, you have the option of using all versions of the app completely free. By purchasing it, you are saying you want to support our efforts to continue to bring you quality software.

Lastly, the upgrade from Twitterrific v 1 to v 2 for the iPhone was free and so the upgrade from 2 to 3 is not. We have not required an upgrade fee from our users since the application was released with the launch of the App Store back in June of 2008.

What are some of the major new features of Twitterrific 3?

There are some great reasons to upgrade to Twitterrific 3. The application has been designed to be the simplest, easiest to use Twitter client available anywhere. Twitterrific now supports full landscape mode (for iPhone), official re-tweets, viewing of lists, OAuth authentication, a wide range of media upload services (including custom services) and 3rd party push notifications like Boxcar.

Specific new 3 features include interface optimization for Apple's new retina display, the addition of a light theme (via the Settings App), VoiceOver support for the visually impaired, OAuth authentication for all new media services and a host of bug fixes. Be sure to check out the version history page for a complete list of what's new.

Where are Twitterrific's settings?

Go to your device's home screen and launch the Settings app. Scroll down and you'll find settings there in the "Apps" section. Twitterrific's settings allow you to change the appearance theme, use real names or screen names, turn off audio notifications and input your Instapaper account information.

Can I use photo services other than the ones listed in Twitterrific?

Yes! Some Twitter image services are supported via custom settings in the image upload selector. We invite you to review our Power User page for more information on how to make use of custom image services in Twitterrific.

Can I make the timeline automatically jump to the top at refresh?

No, the timeline always maintains its position for easy reading. However you can tap the device's status bar (with the time) to manually scroll to the top instantly.

Does Twitterrific support location-based trends?

No, Twitterrific currently only supports global trending topics.

Can Twitterrific check tweets in the background running on iOS 4?

No, Apple limits the types of applications that can run in the background to those that play audio, make Internet phone calls and track GPS locations. Twitterrific doesn't fall into these categories, so it does "fast app switching" instead. This allows you to quickly switch between your Twitter timeline and other apps. How do I post to a trend?

A Twitter trend isn't like a message board, it's basically a search result. As people tweet, their tweets are added to all the other tweets in Twitter's database - they aren't sorted into topics. However, twitter clients, such as Twitterrific, can filter tweets according to searches (trends) or other criteria.

If you want your tweet to show up in a specific trend, consider adding a hashtag before your term. For instance many people tweeting about the Iran election included "#iranelection" in their tweet text. This allowed tweets about the event to show up whenever someone searched for "iranelection". If you had wanted a tweet of yours to show up in such a trend, you would simply include "#iranelection" in the text of the tweet.

Troubleshooting

I keep getting API errors the first time I try to load tweets. Why?

Often these API errors will go away with a subsequent refresh of the timeline. We're working to pin down the exact cause and will do our best to bring a fix to Twitterrific as soon as we can. If Twitter is experiencing high load or network problems, these API errors are real and you'll have to wait for service to become available once again.

I can't get process the in-app upgrade. I keep getting a message about a "sandbox". What's going wrong?

Users with jailbroken iPhones, particularly ones using an app called AppSync have had trouble purchasing Twitterrific's in-app upgrade. Try temporarily uninstalling AppSync or any similar apps and if that isn't successful, you'll most likely have to un-jailbreak your device, at least temporarily.

Twitterrific says my login info is incorrect but I've double checked and it is right. What is wrong?

Check your device's time, date and time zone settings, if they are out of sync or you're in the wrong time zone, reset them and try refreshing Twitterrific again. Twitter's OAuth authentication services require that the time of login match the time on Twitter's servers, so if they are out of sync, it won't allow you to log in.

If this problem occurs regularly and you have a Mobile Me account, you'll want to consider not syncing with Mobile Me as it can sometimes set your device's time zone incorrectly.

I turned the dark theme off but it's still showing. Why?

Sometimes the timeline won't update properly if you change settings while viewing the accounts sidebar. Simply quit the application and re-launch it and you should see the theme update.

I keep getting a "Secure connection failed" error. What's wrong?

This has been an ongoing problem with Twitter that they've been working on for several months. We provide them data, they fix it, and then the problem resurfaces. It's frustrating for everyone involved. In the meantime, simply refreshing your Twitterrific timeline will often clear the problem.

I've unfavorited a tweet on Twitter.com but it's still showing in Twitterrific. How can I remove it?

Navigate to your account in the sidebar and then tap the "Edit" button then tap the circle with the blue arrow to enter the account itself. Next tap "Clear Cached Tweets Now" to clear out any old favorites from your timeline and then tap "Accounts" and "Done" to exit. The next time you load your favorites they'll be up-to-date.
